Hey there, jumpless speedrun guy here! Thanks for showing a bit of my run! I actually got into speedrunning by doing the A Button Challenge on Sunshine, that is, removing not only all kinds of jumps, but everything that takes an A press! We made a small team and shaved off A presses I didn’t thought would ever be saved, like flipping the grate under the green Electro-Koopa in Pinna 5, or jumping into the save block to start a new file! At the moment, Super Mario Sunshine can be beaten in 115 A presses, which includes 1 to start a file, 42 to select each episode, 44 to save after each Shine, and 28 inside secrets (Pinna 6 and Noki 6 being the worst offenders by far). As for the humanly doable part of the challenge, there are some pretty easy tricks that can make certain strats way less painstaking, or even save jumps. First off, you didn’t take full advantage of ground pounds; in secrets like Bianco 3, you can simply run under the Shine, dive as soon as you pass the peak of the little pyramid, and immediately ground pound into the Shine without using the corners of the platform. Ground pounds are also very useful to end a waterslide or series of dives, instead of having to slow down to a stop. That doesn’t make waterslides as versatile as in normal gameplay, but it’s a nice improvement. Secondly, when you can’t get past something jumpless, you should think about how to make the most of that required jump. On Bianco 3 again, jumping up the 3 moving platforms one by one wasn’t optimal, as you could use 1 spinjump to get up 2 platforms. And finally, the best path is not always straightforward; in Gelato 5, instead of climbing up a tree and a mirror, you could just waterslide across the beach to where the hill meets the ground, and run/spam-dive up that hill to easily beat Piantissimo. Hope this helps! (Oh yeah, and I feel you about Sirena 2, that took me 17 minutes in my first jumpless run!)

In some secret stages, if you ground pound into the pipe, you will skip the cutscene with shadow mario and can use fludd.
