The 50s music industry is historically significant because of ONE major event... up until that time ALL songs were aimed at adults. Then... in the 1950s, not just rock and roll but romantic songs and ballads were written for TEENAGERS. It was a major breakthrough. I was 14 in 1956 and while public dances mainly catered for the adults with ballroom and sequence dances there began a rock and roll "slot" in the programme toward the end. That was the bit that we went for and by the end of the fifties dances catered for teenagers from start to finish. The biggest challenge for a young guy like myself was to get a car. If you had a car you got the girl. My car was a 1936 Morris 8 which cost me my weeks wages to keep on the road. But they were great times! 🙂

So many great songs and stella instrumentals, a pivotal year in history with the great emergence of rock n roll into the mainstream, and of course with that the year Elvis impacted the world so hugely. Listening to and seeing all these hits performed you can really begin to understand just how different and unique Elvis was in every way, he must have seemed like something very threatening and dominating from another planet. But some great artists, wish I was around to witness all this.
